Cross Crusade: Cascade Locks

Yesterday was the premiere of a new cross course for Cross Crusade.  Everybody was excited to see the new venue, and experience a new course with several sand pits, tough power sections, and a consistently bumpy terrain. DEVO had a great day at the inaugural course, with several wins by the team, and hard-fought rides by everyone.

The junior men’s 10-12 field has steadily increased in size and caliber over the course of the season, and DEVO is leading the charge for being the team to beat. Carter Hagedorn and Jacob Smith went 1-2 in an exciting final straight sprint finish, and there were impressive rides for 7th and 11th by Collin Turner and Ben Wicker. Sage Doggett, Halen Harrison, and Landon Flemmer had great rides against a 30 rider field, and a challenging course. In the 15-16 field, Joe Lukens rode to a solid 6th place finish, despite suffering mechanical problems early on, and having what for him felt like a disappointing race. Peter Newlands continued his winning streak by taking the win in the 17-18 field, and showing that he is the man to beat this season.

Yesterday’s race at Cascade Locks was also the fourth race in the Junior Cyclocross Series, and the series totals are updated below. Jacob Smith continues to lead the 10-12 series, and Joe is only 6 points behind the leader in the 15-16 race. With his win yesterday, Peter jumped to the lead in the 17-18 overall. It will be an exciting final push to sort the series points out, so we will keep fighting!  The last two races are Sunday 10/25 at Pyscho Cross Series and 10/31 in Bend at the Cross Crusade: Deschutes Brewery course.
